surprise!

karenann's birthday was almost a month ago... buuut we'll do a post about her anyway. because she's so greatness. my sister set up a surprise for my mother at salerno's italian restaurant. we had various dishes, i think the most talked about thing was the lobster bisque and the garlic bread. here she is being surprised. we invited some "denton friends" who were a big hit. thanks martha lynn and peggy! of course the family came, (even dad, the often discussed and rarely seen about town) joanie brought some of her friends and katie brought that girl who always follows her to all family functions (hi tiffany bro!).here she is talking while the candle is slowly covering the cake with wax. mmm wax.and here is the yummy crispy garlic bread. mmm it was so great. they served it with balsamic vinegar slash olive oil with all sorts of herbs floating in the bottle (at least i hope they were herbs).

matt my wonderful boyfriend manfriend, made balls made of cake for my birthday! yay! first... bake cakes. we did chocolate and yellah. then squish. then mix with frosting of choice. sample "cake goo." mmmmm. then make into balls of cake goo as big or small as you would like. you can also use an ice cream scoop to make them uniform sizes... matt just used the old eyeball measurement. aftere they are in balls put them in the freezer to get really hard and cold. that's a lot of toothpicks... i just used one in the end.

then a quick dip in chocolate (we used white chocolate "almond bark" and just chocolate chips to make a ganosh). the toothpick goes in the bottom and then use a fork on the bottom to remove and place on cookie sheet.

...and viola! balls of cake! delicious delicious delicious! the perfect bite of cake and chocolate together.

well, it's another year older for matt. i made tres leches cake and oatmeal coconut chocolate chip cookies.

why yes that is a hand knitted potholder i made, thanks for asking! and yes, my counter is super ugly, it's an apartment however, so what do you expect? a run on sentence?

PS. this was the most frustrating post to publish ever. and if it crashes again while i type this, i will be angry.

birfday cake y'all

This was matty's bday cake last year. It's red velvet cake with, of course, cream cheese icing. YAY! Lovely, just lovely. I have such great handwriting...
