chilly? have some chili!

beef chili with jalapeno pepper and kidney beans. served with cornbread muffins. didn't really like the muffins but the chili? mmmmmm. used america's test kitchen crock pot chili recipe loosely for the inspiration. good for those chilly (?) january days.
ps chili is hard to photograph!

jalapeno pretzels

jalapeno pretzels (one with none on top, just inside) are you sick of pretzels yet? matt isn't (in truth, me neither). this was our last holiday treat of 2008. just added the peppers and some of the juice plus a little taco seasoning, black pepper and chili powder.

cuban sandwiches

what did we have for new year's eve? that's right, the very traditional cuban sandwiches with sweet potatoes. they consisted of ham, pork, swiss cheese, mustard and sliced dill pickles. i had a large frying pan heated, added butter/olive oil (and drizzled some on top) heated a cast iron pan on another burner put foil over the sandwich and pressed down with the bottom of the hot cast iron pan. they were yummy and i don't really like ham that much (except with breakfast or with pineapple, preferably on pizza).
ps merry new year everyone!!!!
